“Music is the pathway to the soul.”
Sozo’s powerful electronic music, energetic melodies, meaningful vocals, and robust bass lines inspire, uplift, and bring on the feels.
California-based songwriter-music producer Sozo knew that music was his calling the first time he picked up a guitar at the age of 15. After putting his musical talents on a 10-year hiatus, a thought swelled in his spirit that he could not suppress: If I go through life without making any music, I will have lived full of regret.
Sozo’s journey back to music was not an easy one. He felt God called him to make music, but a darkness stood in the way. For years, Sozo struggled with alcoholism but kept that piece of his life well-hidden from his family and friends. One night, alone at a bar, staring at the source of his addiction, he asked himself, Who am I? He had been wrestling with two different identities, living two separate lives. It was at that exact moment he had a revelation: I am a child of God. I am beloved by the Almighty and I am created in His image. That’s who I am. Filled with resolve and renewed purpose, Sozo let God’s light fill the voids where that darkness once laid hold. Sozo is over 2 years sober.
With Jesus now the foundation of his identity, Sozo set off on a mission to make music that reflects the work that God has done in his life. The Greek word σώζω, or Sozo, means “saved” “rescued” “delivered from.” Sozo adopted this Greek word as his mantra and seeks to convey God’s message of love and redemption through his music.
Sozo currently has 12 releases: Your Love, Happy Day, So Much More (instrumental), Epiphany, Clarity, Land of Elyon, So Much More (lyrical) as well as a remix of Bill Withers’ famous Ain't No Sunshine, Lion of Judah, Didache, Discovery, and Primed. Stay tuned for more releases in 2020 and beyond!
